Illegal Interview Questions

Uncategorized No Comments »

InterviewI’ve been on the lookout for a list of questions that really can’t be asked in a job interview.  A lot of sites skirt around the issue because legal advice online can be a no-no without loads of disclaimers, etc.  In particular the question on your medical status is an obvious illegal question, but some employers try asking it any way.

I found a great blog entry that discusses those top 10 illegal questions in an interview.  My advice if an employer asks any of these questions?  Don’t work for them.

Good Bye, Damn Sofa

Headaches No Comments »

Back PainWe’re finally getting rid of our crappy sofas and getting our La-Z-Boy sofa and chair delivered this evening.  I’m very happy about this because my back is killing me.  I admit it, I spend a lot of time on the couch.  I’d much rather work on homework and “work at home” on the couch with my laptop on a portable desk.  My back, however, tells me otherwise and is complaining loudly today.  I hope this ends the torture of the cheap-and-looks-good-but-sucks sofa experience.  I’m also excited that if I have a bad GERD/stomach acid incident that the recliner in the sofa will make sleeping possible without gagging.

We decided to postpone our camping trip for this past weekend until next year.  I am overwhelmed with homework and “work at home” work that this weekend would have been a stretch.  I think I still would have gone but Tazz recognized my brain starting to sizzle so we stayed home.  I still took off a half day on Friday and we went to see a movie and had dinner.  We spent the evening Saturday at my mom’s where I brought Crock-Pot beef stew and we had a campfire in their back yard.  I always enjoy doing that at my parents’ house.  :)

I’m off to take something for my neck/upper back.  I look like a troll right now hunched over.  Fun.

Salespeople Are Annoying

Headaches No Comments »

Disclaimer: Sales people are vital to our economy. I love buying things from sales people. This post describes the car-sales like salesperson that exists in the office today.

Frustration So I’m having a horrible headache day with a bitch of a throb emanating from my favorite left temple region. Ibuprofen isn’t even beginning to touch it. I’ve been a good boy and drank plenty of water, got some OJ and even though happy thoughts. Nothing. It’s still there biting its thumb at me.

Any headache is bad enough in my book to be on the “Major Suck” list. However, today, I have another +1 to +5 points on the suckage scale. In the conference room right next to my desk is a meeting with a sales person from Dun & Bradstreet yacking about how good he is and how life is so splendid with their products. Over here I’m wincing with every “my dick is bigger” bellow of laughter coming from that fat ass’ crooked-teeth mouth.

Can you tell I’m pissed?

The topper of it all is they have the door closed. I’d go and say something to them but I’d be afraid I’m come off as some stupid ass consultant who whines a lot about salespeople. I actually feel like going on websites that let you put in a telephone number to have a sales person call you within a minute and use the telephone number in the conference room. I’ll have to put that one in my book for future use.

Saving grace is I leave in a half hour. Whew.

Busy Body

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

I’ve been so busy with work the past two weeks I haven’t had the time or energy to write a post. I’m still waiting to hear about being placed at the investment firm two miles from my house. I really want to be assigned to them because it gives me a chance to walk to work and it’ll save oodles on gasoline. I’m also working on a side project that I get paid “overtime” for but it’s very difficult work because I’m not familiar with the application. I’m getting there I suppose and eventually I’ll be efficient. I’m just not how long the client is willing to wait for me to get up to speed.

I start classes tonight which I am excited excited excited about. I love school. I should say, I hate homework but I love learning new things. I had taken a year off between high school and starting my Associates Degree. The reason I went back is I hated forgetting the things I had learned. My last year was full of fun things like physics, calculus, etc and it made me feel good to understand that. Less than six months after, I couldn’t tell you what the point-slope format of an equation was ( y = mx + b fyi :) ). We’ll see how much I like school with having a real job now. It’s going to be tough.

The next few weeks are going to be busy; my home calendar is pretty full of crap. I may not be able to post very regularly, but I’m going to try. I just need to set aside time to breathe and then I’ll be fine. :D

Yay I passed!

Ugly Face

Well, I successfully completed the examination and now am officially a Sun Certified Java Programmer.  Hoo-rah!  I’ve been dreading this day since June and I’m glad it’s over and done!  The owner of the company I work for was really happy to hear I passed; it makes me easier to market to clients too.

I’ve had a headache since around 11am today.  I attributed it to stress and took some Excedrin to whisk away the pain.  It worked until about 2pm which lovingly coincided with the wrap-up of the examination.  I think I could have gotten a better score if I had the patience to review the answers but I wanted to leave because of the pain.  When I got back into the car I slammed Ibuprofen.  That lasted until about 3:30 and now I’m back to taking more Excedrin at 6pm.  Right now I can feel it right above my left eye and it’s going through my head like a straight line back to where the skull bone sticks out behind your ear.  This is the “normal” migraine pain but the intensity is enough to make me nauseous.  Blah.  This better end soon because the pizza is getting here soon and I want to enjoy it.  :|

Pencils Down, Class

Uncategorized 2 Comments »

I am taking the Sun Certified Java Programmer examination tomorrow afternoon and I’m a little nervous.  While it’s not really required of me with my new employer, I get a salary bump if I pass.  I have not been studying very steadily except for the past two days.  I finished the prep book I got but now I’m going back through and reviewing the items I am not super clear on.  I should do alright and if I don’t, I get a free retake.

And guess what, it’s raining again.
